Computer Aided Design
Fusion 360. Big, full featured 3D solids modeling. Very sophisticated CAM section. Subscription model though a limited free version is available for.hobbyists.
Free Cad. 3D modeling. Parametric modeling which allows you to change the design easily. Open Source. Fairly sophisticated.
VCarve Desktop. Several versions to chose from. Simple CAD with more emphasis on CAM. This is a good program for those wanting to get up and cutting on their CNC machine quickly. There is a Pro version as well, the main distinction is unlimited workpiece size. One time payment.
Computer Aided Manufacturing
Fusion 360. Big, full featured 3D solids modeling. Very sophisticated CAM section. Subscription model. Good 3D tool path generation tools.
F-Engrave. Free engraving program. No frills but quite capable. Can take simple drawings of line art and generate GCode.
Sketch-u-CAM. This is a free Sketchup add-in that allows you to generate GCode for cutting sheet goods. Quirky with a few bugs that are documented.
OpenBuilds CAM. Web based, free. Supports vector based input - DXF and SVG.
Sketchup. 3D modeling. Non-parametric modeling. Large 3D object collection. Subscription.
AutoCAD. The granddaddy of CAD programs. Expensive and complex.
Solidworks. Professional and expensive 3D modeling. Parametric and NURBS based for extremely sophisticated models.
