Teensy vs RP23: Costs
The Teensy 4.1 based T41U5XBB is the most powerful grblHAL controller on the market. If your application requires a lot of short and/or fast movements, the Teensy will shine. Meanwhile, the RP2350 based RP32CNC is very capable machine at a lower price point. How do the all-in costs for these two compare?
Teensy with Ethernet
Item | Cost |
|---|---|
Teensy 4.1 | $31.50 |
T41U5XBB | $33.99 |
Ethernet Kit | $14.00 |
Assembly Kit | $14.00 |
Total | $93.49 |
RP23CNC with Ethernet
Item | Cost |
|---|---|
RP23CNC Board | $45.99 |
Assembly Kit | $14.00 |
Ethernet Kit | $14.00 |
Total | $73.99 |
As you can see, the RP23CNC is a bit less than $20 less expensive. Let's also look at the case without Ethernet.
Teensy without Ethernet
Item | Cost |
|---|---|
T41U5XBB | $33.99 |
Assembly Kit | $14.00 |
Teensy 4.1 without Ethernet | $29.60 |
Total | $77.59 |
RP23CNC without Ethernet
Item | Cost |
|---|---|
RP23CNC | $45.99 |
Assembly Kit | $14.00 |
Total | $59.99 |
If you don't need Ethernet (though, we highly recommend it) you can set up a very capable CNC motion controller for less than $60.
Please note that shipping costs have not been factored in as they can vary widely for different countries. I have not added in any shipping cost for the Teensy 4.1 but you should be aware that will increase total cost and widen the difference between the RP23CNC and Teensy bases systems.
